Women in Leadership at CA Technologies | Hannah Preston

As part of our “Bring What You Bring – Women in Leadership” blog series, we’re celebrating several of our women in leadership to find out what they bring to the organization.

Meet Hannah Preston. She’s the Global Account Director, HSBC

What does a Global Account Director, HSBC do?

Hannah takes a leading role in understanding the bank’s vision to help them grow their business through utilizing CA software.

“My purpose is to help the World’s Largest Bank to be the best it can be. I firmly believe that CA has the tools the bank needs to be even more successful. It takes a collaborative effort from; Sales, Services/Education, Customer Success, Engineering, Partners and Consultants to achieve such ambitions. It is my job to navigate the Bank’s challenges and connect them to programs that deliver the right business outcomes. It takes more than tools to be successful. People are equally important. “Having a rake in the garden won’t make your garden beautiful. It is having a clear vision of the garden you desire, and then putting the rake to work is how you get the garden you want.” I want to fully understand the Banks vision, and help them execute their strategy.”

Bring What You Bring

At CA, employees are encouraged to work with one another and build on each other’s strengths to create richer results. This ‘Bring What You Bring’ ethos is spread right across the organization and when speaking to Hannah about what she brings to CA she told us that her main asset is her creativity and her positive ripple effect, as she believes that an innovative approach inspires new ideas, energy and excitement.

“Creative flair, I love creating beautiful content, images, videos and ads. Well-crafted content can be very compelling in a sales strategy. Simplifying complexity is a characteristic that runs through everything I do. Making business outcome simple to understand helps buyers to understand the “why” which is important to get the right effect. If I think about the most valuable thing that I bring to CA, it is a positive ripple effect; I like to circulate positive energy, which tends to spark positive energy in others forgive me if that sounds a bit “hippy-dippy” but I have seen it make a real difference everywhere I go.”

One piece of advice for current or future Women Leaders

Hannah believes that a woman should never underestimate her strength and should continuously learn to evolve and grow.

“Go for it. Don’t wait for permission to advance, ask for what you want, know your value (don’t underestimate it), learn continuously (it will give you greater confidence).”

My female inspiration

Hannah finds inspiration in women who are true and faithful to themselves and are always ready to help others.

“So many amazing inspiring female leaders: I look for women who are true to themselves, who have a purpose in life and help others and share their experiences. Stories of incredible women who negotiate peace in hostile conflict situations inspire me in business; these people are living proof that there are other ways to settle better outcomes, that do not require brute force and power battles. I believe we have the same opportunity for peaceful negotiation in business.”

Women in Leadership qualities

CA Technologies has a core of DNA that align with the company’s mission, to eliminate the barriers between ideas and business outcomes. Hannah has selected the most important DNA trait that she feels will make her a successful woman in leadership at CA Technologies.

  • Authentic – Authenticity is key trait. Mindfulness and fostering trust among peers, partners and customers I am confident will achieve success.
  • Collaborative – Collaboration is vital to success, it’s like compound interest “winning together is so much more rewarding than winning solo.”

One piece of advice for current or future Women Leaders

“Lead how you would want to be led.”

My female inspiration

Kelly has many female role models, of which are amongst her family members.

“I can’t name just one. I grew up in a family of strong women. My grandmother ran away from home to further her studies at a time when mainly boys progressed beyond high school. My aunt had her own advertising agency and was a creative director of a few global agencies. My other aunt was a top sales person. My mother is working into her 70s (part-time because she enjoys it and when she’s not at work, she’s holidaying with her girlfriends). I grew up knowing that with hard work and determination, you can achieve your goals in life.”

Bring What You Bring

At CA, employees are encouraged to work with one another and build on each other’s strengths to create richer results. ”I bring 2 decades of industry experience including India & US. I am very passionate and truly believe in being customer centric. When our GIS customers are happy (i.e. CA employees) we definitely win as a company.”

One piece of advice for current or future Women Leaders

Kavitha believes that a woman should never hesitate to be a part of different experiences as that will definitely give her a different perspective.

”As women, we love to keep things to ourselves. We become a ‘superwoman’ on one extreme, and a ‘martyr’ on the other. I like mentoring women on this constantly and encourage them to have an open communication channel either with their manager or team, on their availability. I also guide them on how to constantly reprioritize, and how to say no when the situation demands it; even though I too am constantly learning and evolving in these areas, these are must-have skills in your personal toolbox.”

My female inspiration

Kavitha has many female role models like Indira Nooyi – CEO of PepsiCo, Chanda Kochhar – MD & CEO of ICICI bank and in CA – Lauren Holmes -SVP of Business Solutions Group. But her biggest inspirations are her Mother & Mother in law.

”Closer to me in my family are my mother and my mother in law. They seem to be able to handle any kind of issue and each handles a team of 5 children along with their spouses and 13 grandchildren and in Indian culture, the extended families are also part of your inner circle and is a huge management skill. Their ability to deal with ups/downs, their ability to be emotionally anchored continue to teach me lessons. I have super role models in my two boys too, constantly learning from them on what works with millennials.

Women in Leadership qualities

CA Technologies has a core DNA that aligns with the company’s mission, to eliminate the barriers between ideas and business outcomes. Kavitha has selected the most important DNA traits that she feels will make her a successful woman in leadership at CA Technologies.

  • Creative – Bring your artistic brain to work, you can create magic in your products.
  • Customer Centric – Always put yourself in the customer’s shoes and then design the experience.
  • Uncompromising Integrity – Always do the right thing – ethically and morally.
  • Self-Aware – Try to do things out of your comfort zone and always break the stereotypes. Shut your inner “cannot do” voice and always dare to venture out of your box to bring out the best and bright.
  • Agile – Change, agility and moving at a speed or ahead of the customer is the norm in all my projects. It has become my second nature.

Bring What You Bring

At CA, employees are encouraged to work with one another and build on each other’s strengths to create richer results. This ‘Bring What You Bring’ ethos is spread right across the organization and when speaking to Ana about what she brings to CA she told us that her main asset is collaboration & team spirit, as she strongly believes in cultivating an environment for everyone to give their best.

                                                 Ana with her family

“To address the business challenges, it is key to create a collaborative environment in which every individual gives the best to the team. When we work together as a team, in the same direction with the same goals, we are more effective and smart and if we win, everybody feels part of this success.

One piece of advice for current or future Women Leaders

Ana believes that women should deserve the opportunity to assume leadership positions, in every place of society.

“If we, as women, don’t show our willingness to lead, some others will do. Don’t be shy, believe in yourself. We are strong, smart and brave. Ask for an opportunity, take the risk and enjoy the journey.”

                                                           Ana as a small child

My female inspiration

Ana has many female and male role models but mentions her biggest inspiration are her Grandmothers.

                                                Ana with her Grandmother

“I have read many biographies about historic women, and all of them have the same characteristic. They were true to themselves, THEY WERE NOT PERFECT. In terms of role models my two grandmothers influenced me. They are both incredibly strong women, who both lived through a civil war on opposing sides, but both believed and faced the struggle themselves; they’re fighters, they’re entrepreneurs and they’re both fiercely brave. They were a big part of my childhood and I never felt that they thought differently towards each other (due to the civil war). Over the years I realized how different their lives had been and how respectful they were between them. They both taught me that I should live a life that would benefit myself in-compassing my own virtues and my mistakes. Antoni and Domi, my grandmothers, two great women of the last century.”

Women in Leadership qualities

CA Technologies has a core of DNA that align with the companies mission, to eliminate the barriers between ideas and business outcomes. Ana has selected the most important DNA traits that she feels will make you a successful woman in leadership at CA Technologies.

  • self-aware, if I recognize my virtues and my defects, I can understand other people better.
  • resilient, we need to adapt to different environments.
  • uncompromising integrity, you can’t compromise honesty and truthfulness in any role, let alone a leadership position.

Women In Leadership at CA Technologies | Sonja Aboulez

As part of our “Bring What You Bring – Women in Leadership” blog series, we’re celebrating several of our women in leadership to find out what they bring to the organization.

Meet Sonja Aboulez. She’s the Vice President, Digital Sales EMEA.

What does a Vice President, Digital Sales EMEA do?

Sonja takes a leading role in effectively & efficiently executing the Digital Sales Model across multiple routes to market to drive incremental growth and provide exceptional customer experience.

“My role is to delight our customers and partners with a team of talented, passionate, and highly engaged sales and presales professionals. This team leverages client and market insights from smart data analytics to engage with clients, prospects and partners in innovative, professional and fast ways along their buying journey. The Digital Sales Team is the coolest place at CA.”

Bring What You Bring

At CA, employees are encouraged to work with one another and build on each other’s strengths to create richer results. This ‘Bring What You Bring’ ethos is spread right across the organization and when speaking to Sonja about what she brings to CA she told us that her main asset is her passion for people & IT. She believes in building high-performance teams in complex matrix organizations that can achieve strong and undisputable business outcomes.

Sonja with “Tara” one of her two horses. Tara is a former race horse whom she rescued in 2016.

“I believe I bring my experience and solid understanding of leading digital transformation and building high-performance teams that are committed to their mission and roles, and who understand the power of teaming”.

One piece of advice for current or future Women Leaders

Sonja believes that women should be curious and never afraid to try something new & challenging at work. Scary challenges can be a great opportunity for personal & professional growth.

“Doing something new and different enables a new perspective and often this curiosity triggers a different, thought process that drives positive change. Be curious and don’t be afraid to fail. I have seen too many great female talents not believe in their own capabilities and therefore stay too long in a job they have outgrown already. I’ve learned that it’s better to try something new, fail fast and change course rather than be safe in our comfort zone. Failing is not a reflection of who we are. I am convinced that success stems from hard work and is built on failure.”

My female inspiration

Sonja has many female and male role models but mentions her biggest inspiration is her Grandmother.

“My grandmother, who raised 3 kids by herself in Austria during WW II is my biggest role model. Her husband was fighting against the Nazis in the resistance. He was imprisoned and then sent to the “Front“ in Russia when he was in his early thirties, from where he never returned. He was never declared dead, but missing. My grandmother never lost strength, she kept her positive energy and did not become an embittered or cynical person. She never married again, and devoted all her energy to raising 3 wonderful children and then being a wonderful grandma. She was the kindest, calmest, unconditionally loving, trusting and most forgiving person I have known. No matter what my grandmother was always there for us. She didn’t speak when no words were needed, had wise words at the right moment, and was terribly proud of us without ever putting any pressure on us. She let us be kids, be silly, learn by making our own experiences, but was always there to help if need be. The self-confidence I got from how she trusted us without control was invaluable. None of us kids would have ever abused that trust. She gave us wings to fly and we always returned.”

Women in Leadership qualities

CA Technologies has a core of DNA that align with the companies mission, to eliminate the barriers between ideas and business outcomes. Sonja has selected the most important DNA traits that she feels will make you a successful woman in leadership at CA Technologies.

  • Customer Centric – Changes in buying behaviors are requiring organizations to adapt digital engagement models to engage with customers whenever they are ready to engage with us. Research tells us that about 60% of the decision making process on the buyer side are already done before buyers are willing to engage with a sales person. This means we have to engage with customers, partners and prospects wherever they are in their decision making process. We have to do that by providing a delightful, intuitive and personalized experience for them. Knowing what they want and when they want it requires customer insight through smart data analytics.
  • Agile – We have seen new sales and engagement models disrupt the way we used to think about engaging, selling, buying, consuming etc. The drivers to this digital revolution are Social Media, Mobile devices (apps at your fingertips), Analytics (Internet of Things, everything connected) and Cloud (from on-demand applications to infrastructure compute power). With changes happening faster and at a greater scale than ever before we need to move with a sense of urgency, adapt quickly, try out new models and fail fast and learn fast from failure as well as adapt in anticipation of change.
  • Uncompromising Integrity – Integrity is a core principle of who I am. There’s no difference in personal or professional life. Integrity put in very simple terms is doing the right thing when no one is watching. I am convinced there is no good and lasting business that’s not built on strong and mutual trust relationships and trust is built on a culture of uncompromising integrity.

Cristiana Darra

Cristiana takes a leading role in specifying technical solutions, writing proposals and tender, building custom presentations/demonstrations and delivering Proof Of Concepts (POC).

“My job is to support sales productivity and deal flow by securing the “technical close’ in complex environments. I collaborate with sales, services, engineering, and technical support resources to ensure proposed deals include technical solutions that accurately address customer needs, and are appropriately supported by key customer technical decision-makers. “

“I always do everything I can to create the right level of empathy. I do not work (only) to sell. I work with the precise goal of helping customers achieve their goals. I believe that this attitude is appreciated by customers who take a serene and collaborative attitude towards me. This helps to create the basis for customers and CA success”

Cristiana and her family: from left to right, her sons Massimo e Marco and her partner Luca.

One piece of advice for current or future Women Leaders

Cristiana’s advice to current or future female leaders is to not focus on being a women in business, but to put that girl power into being the best version of you.

“It happens sometimes that women are on the defensive, waiting to react to a skeptical attitude from clients or colleagues. It happened to me when I was younger. Thoughts of this type only produce one result: a distraction from the ultimate goal. The reality is that in the end, there is no interest in anyone, man or a woman, unless you excel and lead by example. Count only on what you have to say and what you can do.”

My female inspiration

Cristiana has many female and male role models but mentions her biggest inspiration is Fabiola Gianotti.

Fabiola Gianotti, currently CERN Director-General was the first woman to hold this position. Her smile is always a source of inspiration for Cristiana.

Source: http://www.azquotes.com/author/27265-Fabiola_Gianotti

“Generally speaking, I feel a great admiration for all women who are so strong and who aren’t afraid to feel frail or weak in particular situations. Having confidence in yourself and in our own capacities does not mean to be robots. Women cry more easily than men. So? Does this make us less valuable professionals? Absolutely not. I have never had a precise reference model, but I do have a great admiration for Fabiola Gianotti.”

Women in Leadership qualities

CA Technologies has a core of DNA that align with the companies mission, to eliminate the barriers between ideas and business outcomes. She has selected the most important DNA traits that she feels will make you a successful woman in leadership at CA Technologies.

“Uncompromising Integrity – because passion for my job forces me to always honor my commitments. Authentic – because I try to be open and transparent, as often as I can.”

Women In Leadership at CA Technologies | Patrícia Paladini Adell

As part of our “Bring What You Bring – Women in Leadership” blog series, we’re celebrating several of our women in leadership to find out what they bring to the organisation.

Meet Patrícia Paladini Adell. She’s the Director of Globalization.

What does a Director of Globalization do?

Patrícia is responsible for a team of translation professionals whose main aim is to provide translation services to enable international sales.

“I like to say that our job is to facilitate Product Teams, Corporate Marketing or any other teams at CA to translate and localize their products or assets into any language.”

Bring What You Bring

Patrícia with her future women leader, her daughter Bruna

At CA, employees are encouraged to work with one another and build on each other’s strengths to create richer results. This ‘Bring What You Bring’ ethos is spread right across the organisation and when speaking to Patrícia about what she brings to CA she told us that her main asset is creativity, as her job is to take care of designing the technology that supports translation execution following automated workflows at CA.

“Because me and my team are constantly looking for the best standards and approaches in delivering the highest quality translation assets, we have to bring the best customer experience, as well as maintain exceptional attention to detail when it comes to our delivery.”

One piece of advice for current or future Women Leaders

Patrícia believes that you should not be afraid of taking risks, whether that is at work or in general life.

“When I talk to women about challenges, sometimes I get the impression that they doubt if they are able to take a certain risk or if they are ready for that next step. It’s great to be self-aware, and that’s one of of CA’s mission DNA traits, but you also need to be positively reflective and move away from this ideology of negative self-awareness that can put ourselves by default on a secondary plane. Be brave. Take risks.”

My female inspiration

Patrícia has many female and male role models but mentions her biggest inspiration is her mother.

Patrícia and her mother

She was able to develop herself having come from a very traditional education in which women were supposed to be “nice and quiet” to being at the forefront position in leading a family business and raising for large amounts of years on her own, a family of 5 children.

Patrícia with her mother and four siblings

“Specific to my career at CA, I would like to mention names like Debra Danielson, a role model to all of us as women in leaderships positions. Nivedita Aggarval, a top women reference in work ethics not only at CA but also specifically for women in India. She participates in several conferences and events to help Indian women to take leadership positions. Outside of the organization, women like Anna Schlegel, who’s one of the top influencers in the Globalization arena. Anna is one of the founders of Women in Localization, a professional organization for women with a mission to foster a global community for the advancement of women and the localization industry. Finally, I cannot avoid mentioning my colleagues in the Globalization team and my best-ladies-friends and sisters, all them women leaders in their professional and family areas: every time we get together, we end up exalting the role of women, supporting each other in our daily challenges and celebrating women success.”

Women In Leadership at CA Technologies | Maggie Koh

As part of our “Bring What You Bring – Women in Leadership” blog series, we’re celebrating several of our women in leadership to find out what they bring to the organisation.

Meet Maggie Koh. She’s the Senior Director, APJ People Operations.

What does a Senior Director of People Operations do?

Maggie has a relatively diverse portfolio ranging from leading Talent Acquisition and People Shared Services to Workforce Planning, People Analytics and M&A Integration for the APJ region.

“I work closely with the People Business Partners supporting the different Business Units and countries and my Global People Operations team to ensure these People Services are of value to our People and are delivered in an efficient and effective manner.”

Bring What You Bring

At CA, employees are encouraged to work with one another and build on each other’s strengths to create richer results. This ‘Bring What You Bring’ ethos is spread right across the organisation and when speaking to Maggie about what she brings to CA she told us that her main contributions include resourcefulness and creativity in developing solutions and services to the People team and employees at large.

“At CA, I am given due autonomy and flexibility to perform my job which comes with its fair share of responsibility and accountability. This combination requires me to apply my critical thinking skills yet gives me the opportunity to be resourceful and creative in developing solutions to problems and when implementing new services.”

One piece of advice for current or future Women Leaders

“Be firm in your values, have faith in your strengths and be consistent in your actions advocating these values and leveraging your strengths.”

My female inspiration

Maggie’s inspiration comes from various sources.

“I’ve been blessed to have met different “teachers”, both male and female, whose beliefs and behaviors show me that I can be my own success story through having a positive mindset, adopting a can-do attitude and believing that opportunities and obstacles have their own rewards.”

Women in Leadership qualities

CA Technologies has a set of DNA attributes that align with the Company’s mission – to eliminate the barriers between ideas and outcomes. While it is important to have a balance of all the DNA traits, Maggie has selected these three which she resonates most in her leadership journey at CA Technologies.

Socially aware, customer centric and creative

“Socially Aware – As APJ region consists of people with diverse cultures and backgrounds, being socially aware makes me more sensitive to the needs and views of others which could be different from my own or my perception leading to better alignment of common objective.”

“Customer Centric – Having a focus on customer needs ensures that my work has a clear purpose and the outcomes are of value to the people who need them the most.”

“Creative – Being creative encourages me to explore different ways of doing things that can benefit the customer and to come up with a solution that enhances their user experience.”
